At Crossroads Beef, we know a thing or two about embracing change and the importance of a sustainable future. We weren’t always cattle ranchers; we began as a 130-year-old, family-run row-crop farm in the heart of Iowa. When faced with a shifting agricultural landscape, we had to make a pivotal choice: adapt to the land’s needs or risk losing our legacy. This wasn’t just about preserving our farm—it was about securing a future for generations while caring for the land that has sustained us for so long. Crossroads Beef was born from this commitment to sustainability for both our family and the environment.

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us—it’s a responsibility we take seriously. We care for the land because it’s our legacy, and more importantly, the source of nourishment for our animals. Transparency and accountability are cornerstones of our operation. You deserve to know where your food comes from, and we’re proud to say that Crossroads Beef is raised with genuine respect for both the animals and the land they live on.

Here, we blend time-honored traditions with modern know-how to raise cattle the right way, delivering beef that nourishes both body and soul. Our herd of Red Angus spend their entire lives roaming freely on spacious pastures, enjoying a carefully planned diet of fresh grasses and forages. We grow a specially curated mix of perennial grasses and tasty legumes, offering a diverse and nutritious feast. We call it a “bovine buffet,” but it’s serious business. This thoughtful approach ensures they thrive on a natural, balanced diet, resulting in beef that’s as exceptional as it is wholesome.

We practice adaptive rotational grazing, a technique that lets our cattle graze new pastures daily. This approach not only benefits the animals by providing a variety of required nutrients but also supports healthy land and reduces environmental impact. Come winter, we supplement their diet with additional minerals and baled grasses to ensure they are healthy and happy, but otherwise, they’re free to graze as they please.

Confined feedlots? Not on your life!

We firmly believe that confinement is no place for a happy cow. That’s why our cattle never set a hoof in a feedlot. They enjoy a stress-free life. Sticking to 100% grass-fed and grass-finished methods both benefits their well-being and contributes to the exceptional flavor and nutritional profile of our beef, which is naturally rich in Omega-3s, vitamins, and minerals. Unlike hurried grain-fed cattle in feedlots, our cattle grow at their own pace, resulting in beef that’s both nutritious and delicious.
